MIMESIS
The Mimesis collage series is a series of self-portraits by artist Maryna Brodovska, created in 2022 during Russia's war against Ukraine.
The artist asks herself: how to remain when it seems that all your life and the world, that surrounded you – crashed in one day? How to preserve personal and artistic identity in times of cruelty and chaos, times when your physical existence is in a daily risk? Should I care about it? Is it important? I believe that it is. Doing these new self-portrait series in a joyful way is my personal opposition to the madness of the war. I exist, even without a physical body. And smile and joke, because I am.
Art remains a powerful tool against death. And if it can't save this world, it can definitely save the artist.

Серія колажів Мімезіс – це серія автопортретів художниці Марини Бродовської, які були створені в 2022 році під час війни Росії проти України. Це серія про збереження власної ідентичності. Про намагання зберегти себе в нових умовах, в часи коли здається все життя, яке було до – зруйноване і відібране. В часи, коли єдине що у тебе залишається – це ти, і твоя творчість. Творчість, якій незважаючи на важкі обставини, все ще притаманна іронія і відчуття гумору.
Мистецтво, залишається потужним інструментом, проти смерті. І якщо воно не зможе врятувати цей світ, воно точно може врятувати художника.
